Santi Apostoli

Located close to the Santa Trinita bridge, the Santi Apostoli church, whose origins date back to the 6th century, was particularly affected by the flood. The mud in front of the church portal, wreckage from the surrounding buildings, destroyed chattels, and the very conspicuous water level in the interior of the church are awe-inspiring proof of the effects of the flood catastrophe. The removed altarpiece by Tommaso d'Antonio Manzuoli lets us estimate just how much permanent damage the flood inflicted on Florentine works of art and how much was destroyed.
